Visit Ancient Rome in Google Earth

by Srv on March 21, 2010

Visit Ancient Rome in Google Earth The Roman Forum. The Colosseum. These buildings and monuments are among the icons of Ancient Rome and represent some of the touchstones of an entire culture and civilization. Yet, with only 300 original ruins still standing today, preserving the memory of this empire in new and imaginative ways has become essential to giving both current and future students opportunities to continue learning about Rome. With this in mind, Google has joined forces with the Rome Reborn Project to create the Ancient Rome 3D layer, now viewable in Google Earth. The first 3D ancient city to be featured in Google Earth, the Ancient Rome 3D layer will provide users with a truly unique opportunity to learn about the capital of one of history’s grandest and most memorable empires. Also launching today in the US: a curriculum competition for K-12 educators in all subject areas. Available video includes Google Earth Ancient Rome with edited packages in multiple languages.

Besides every morning in the principle place of rome messengers came every morning from every province of the empire and gave the people the last news. A sort of modern TG. Really, in Rome you could do everything, maybe even more than today.

Mussolini and Hitler tried to… Anyway it had to be pretty nice to have some slaves, to be the richest of europe and have more or less everything we have still today. You didn’t have to pay the ticked to go to the stadium or to the colosseums. They had theatres instead of cinemas, therms where you could bath, receive massages , depilate or make gymnastic (gratis too) and romans made banquets that often ended in orgies.

They forgot to mention that the Colosseum was also used for executions. The “criminals” would be painted with animal blood before having lions unleashed on them.

I can’t think of any scenario where I would want to be in the middle of the Colosseum in ancient Rome.
